In a spur-of-the-moment decision, Mel & I decided to take to the road and set our sights onto the mystery of Tijuana, Mexico. We had alot of people warn us about going over the boarder. We were a little nervous at first but after arriving, our concerns faded. Our journey unfolded like an unplanned adventure, full of surprises and untold stories.
We chose to stay at the cutest beachside Airbnb. It turned out to be the coziest haven, giving us a front-row seat to the rhythm of the Pacific. The location was perfect, right next to the boardwalk. Making for the best evening strolls and morning coffee scenes. The beach was filled with Mexican fox squirrels, we’ll never forget how different these little guys were compared to the cute little brown ones we have back in the states.
While exploring the boardwalk, we stumbled upon a vendor with the most delicious mangoes. Each bite was a celebration of Tijuana’s simple pleasures. Downtown welcomed us with lively streets, immersed in the local beat. The city’s energy was infectious. We stumbled upon the coolest food court and helped ourselves to a few frozen margaritas. But the coolest place we found while visiting was called “B Haus Coffee Shop.” This place had the cutest vibe, with some lounge rooms and patio seating. Mel got the banana waffles while I indulged in the hash waffle and a green tea.
Walking alongside the border wall in Tijuana was like tracing the heartbeats of two worlds. On one side, the familiar sights of America, and on the other, the palpable desire in the eyes of locals to be on the other side. It was a visual and emotional journey, where the imposing structure became a silent witness to dreams and the complexity of life at the crossroads. Each step, a reminder of the intricate dance between nations, painted against the backdrop of a setting sun casting shadows on aspirations and unspoken narratives.
Mel’s Spanish skills became our ticket to freedom. Quite literally, as we prepared to leave Mexico. A momentary challenge almost derailed us. We almost missed our exit, as we merged into traffic we were pulled over for “cutting” the line. Mel was able to talk our way out of a ticket with the local officer. Patience became our ally as we found ourselves in a two-hour wait, the result of traffic snarls and long lines. Along the exit route, locals seized the opportunity, lining the streets with last-minute mementos.
Before making our way back home we stopped in San Diego for a beautiful sunset, gelato & tacos. It was the perfect way to end this spontaneous and eventful trip together.
If you’ve been asking yourself weather or not Tijuana is a good destination for vacation. We give it a 5 star rating and encourage you to take the time to visit. It’s an adventure worth taking.
