Cosmo Hotel – Berlin, Mitte

It was time for a quick weekend trip to Berlin again to enjoy the last warm, sunny days before the temperature drops. For our one-night stay, we chose the Cosmo Hotel in Berlin, Mitte.

We are Starwood Preferred Gold Members and in order to maintain our status, we need to stay in a Starwood hotel a minimum of 10 stays per calendar year. Due to the recent Marriott and Starwood merger, Starwood Gold Status will automatically give you Marriott Gold Status. This means free breakfasts and lounge access at Marriott hotels, which will come in very useful for our upcoming Southeast Asia and Australia trip this winter.

We didn’t want to spend money on a hotel for our weekend trip and cashed in 7,000 SPG points for a one-night stay at the Cosmo Hotel.

The Hotel

The Cosmo Hotel in Berlin is part of the Design Hotels collection of the Starwood brand. It is not your typical cookie-cutter Sheraton or Westin hotel. The Cosmo Hotel is located in Berlin Mitte. The location is convenient because it is located directly across from the Spittelmarkt subway station on the U2 line. Spittelmarkt is only 3 stops from Alexanderplatz or 5 stops away from our favorite neighborhood, Prenzlauer Berg.

The hotel is inside a nondescript looking building and won’t impress you from the outside. Once inside, the design elements start to show. Don’t come here expecting a cozy, warmly furnished hotel. The interior of the Cosmo Hotel is sleek, modern, and minimalist. There is somewhat of a trendy industrialist vibe. It all works really well together and we were pleased with décor.

The lobby area is small with a pleasant little bar, where we enjoyed a complimentary glass of wine courtesy of our gold status. The hotel is also home of Scent restaurant, however we didn’t eat there as we had our dining experiences in Berlin already planned.

The Room

At check in, we were upgraded from a standard room to a comfort room. We were very happy with the room. It was very large with plenty of storage place. It was also very modern and minimalist and had all the latest technological features.

The best part of our hotel room was our king-size bed that was so comfortable! We enjoyed a really good sleep. The bathroom was also very spacious with a nice walk-in shower. The room was immaculately clean and comfortable. We were located in the rear of the hotel and faced a nice little park with a fountain.

Final Thoughts

We would absolutely stay here again. For 7,000 SPG points, we thought it was a good deal. If we had paid in cash, the rate would have been approximately 120 euros which is also a good value for what we received.

The area around the hotel is not very attractive with many housing blocks and busy streets. However, we did not spend any time there and enjoyed the convenient location right by public transportation.

We didn’t interact with the staff often but when we did, they were all very friendly. For us, the best parts of the stay were the location and of course, the very comfortable bed!
