art’otel- Berlin, Mitte
A few weeks ago, we had a family member come and visit us and we decided to take a very spontaneous trip to Berlin…meaning we didn’t plan on going until we woke up that morning. We only needed a hotel for one night, but we didn’t want to spend money, so we used points instead and luckily ended up at art’otel Berlin Mitte.
We have a US Bank issued Club Carlson Visa card that gives 25,000 points every year on the card anniversary. We haven’t stayed in a Club Carlson hotel recently and wanted to redeem some of the points that had been building up from the credit card as well as previous stays.
Where to stay?
Our options were limited, as we needed to stay close to Alexanderplatz to be near the hotel our family member was staying at. We could either stay at the Radisson Blu for 50,000 points or stay at the art’otel Berlin Mitte for 38,000 points. We ended up choosing the art’otel because it cost fewer points and it was just 2 subway stops away from Alexanderplatz. The Märkisches Museum subway stop is directly outside the hotel.
Not having too many expectations, we were very pleasantly surprised by the art’otel! It was cool, hip, and modern. We usually stay at the Moxy by Marriott when we go to Berlin (which is very often), so this was a pleasant surprise. It wasn’t stuffy or “hotel” like, but instead had a more “boutique” feeling about it. True to its name, the artwork throughout the hotel was incredible and features original work from the artist Georg Baselitz.
Our room was spacious and the bed was also incredibly comfortable. A huge plus was that there was a coffee maker and they provided real creamer for the coffee (not the powder kind). Yes, we know coffee makers are in plenty of hotel rooms, but the newer and smaller “boutique” hotels don’t usually provide them. The bathroom was nice too, however, only space for one person at a time.
As we were only here to sleep…we truly didn’t spend too much time in our room. However, we did spend time at the bar. Sadly, we don’t have any pictures of the bar at night. We only enjoyed it for a final (and another final glass of wine). Even though we don’t have pictures, the bartender was so friendly and accommodating. The seating area is great inside, but there is also a lovely outdoor terrace in between check-in and the bar.
